School reopening: Pungo Christian Academy

BELHAVEN — Pungo Christian Academy will kick off its fall semester with in-person learning starting Aug. 17, with a number of additional safety protocols in place to welcome back students. While the school used remote learning last semester, PCA Head of School Marcy Morgan says PCA staff members have been working hard to make sure kids can come back safely.

Classrooms at PCA will utilize social distancing, and each student will be given a face covering to use when they can’t do so. Morgan said the school will also try to incorporate outside lunches when possible, with students eating in the classroom when that’s not possible. In addition, students will have their temperatures taken each day as they arrive at school or get on the bus. The school has also employed additional custodial staff members to help keep the building disinfected throughout the day.

“I don’t think many of our staff have had a summer break,” Morgan said. “If we haven’t been physically at school, we have been working on plans for how to roll things out when Aug. 17 gets here. … We feel like it’s important for kids to get academic, social and emotional face-to-face instruction, but also trying to cover as many safety precautions as we possibly can.”
