More than 1,000 Beaufort County residents vaccinated

More than 1,000 Beaufort County residents have received their first of two COVID-19 vaccine doses, and 107 residents have completed their two-dose series.

The Beaufort County Health Department on Wednesday evening reported that 1,063 county residents had received their first dose. The health department administered 692 of those doses, and the rest were given by the department’s partners or other counties.

Anyone ages 75 and older is currently eligible to receive the vaccine, regardless of their health status or living situation. The department is handling vaccines on an appointment-only basis. All of the health department’s January appointments have been filled. The health department anticipates that scheduling will resume Jan. 25.

COVID stats at a glance

Beaufort County reported 35 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday. Health officials know of 837 active cases among county residents.

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services experienced technical problems Tuesday that prevented some laboratory files from being processed in a timely manner. Because of that, the statewide metrics reported by the DHHS on Wednesday are lower than what they would have been had the data been processed on time, and the numbers in Thursday’s report will be higher because they’ll include cases that should have been entered Wednesday.

North Carolina reported 5,098 cases Wednesday, as well as 107 COVID-19-related deaths.
