Details released for opening of Greenville large-scale vaccination site

GREENVILLE — Vidant Health and the Pitt County Health Department released scheduling details for the large-scale COVID-19 vaccine site set to open at the Greenville Convention Center on Jan. 25.

The site will be open seven days a week, and vaccines will be administered on an appointment-only basis. All eastern North Carolina residents are eligible to schedule appointments, but the 8,000 people on Pitt County Health Department’s wait list will be prioritized in the first phase of scheduling, according to a press release.

“Beginning 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, community members can view appointment availability by conveniently visiting VidantHealth.com/Vaccinate or by logging into their MyChart account at MyChart.VidantHealth.com,” the release says. “The online appointment scheduler is the fastest and most convenient way to view and schedule an appointment.”

Those who don’t have internet access or require special assistance can call 252-847-8000.

Health insurance is not required, and there is no out-of-pocket expense to receive the vaccine from Vidant.

“Vidant serves a region of 1.4 million people and appointments are expected to fill up quickly,” the release says. “The public is encouraged to be patient as it is expected to take months to vaccinate eligible community members. The initial goal is to administer more than 4,000 vaccines per week depending on the state’s vaccine allocations. Vidant and Pitt County will adjust appointment slots as needed, depending on vaccine allocations and other resources.”
